Mychal Threets, the librarian who touched the hearts of many and went viral for his heartwarming stories on TikTok and Instagram, and collaborator on PBS Kids, participated in a special collaboration with Sony Pictures’ Harold And The Purple Crayon, which releases exclusively in movie theaters on August 2, 2024.

The family-friendly movie, which is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades, stars Zachary Levi, Zoey Deschanel and Lil Rel Howery.

Mychal hosted a screening in San Francisco, CA, in partnership with the studio that included guests from the San Francisco Library, and organizations such as La Raza Community Center, and Jack and Jill. His love for books and literacy was evident during the night as Threets read Harold and the Purple Crayon to the audience before they watched the film on the big screen.

Additionally, 150 Harold and the Purple Crayon books were donated on his behalf to the Dixon Library in Solano County, California this summer – a library in which Threets spent almost a decade, and most of his career as a Supervising Librarian. With these books, thanks to Threets and the Dixon Library, they’ve helped encourage literacy and imagination in the hearts of the children this summer in Dixon, CA, through its various reading programs.
