Bank of America
Every summer, Bank of America selects some amazing high school students to be part of their Student Leaders® (#BofAStudentLeaders) program, an eight-week paid summer internship providing students with first-hand experience in serving their communities. This year, two students from San Jose were recognized by the program.
“Bank of America is steadfast in our commitment to supporting teens and young adults by connecting them to jobs, community engagement opportunities and leadership development,” said Raquel González, president, Bank of America Silicon Valley. “These students are the future of our community, which is why programs like Student Leaders are one way we can provide paid opportunities for them to gain positive employment experience, while developing a diverse pipeline of talent as they enter our local workforce.”
Started in 2004, the Student Leaders program recognizes 300 community-focused juniors and seniors from across the U.S. annually. The Class of 2022 San Jose Bank of America Student Leaders include:
- Sarah Sofia Huerta (Rita) of San Jose, Cupertino High School rising senior, leads the Latino Student Union and organizes field trips to local colleges such as San Jose State. Identifying as both indigenous and Latina, she also offers free tutoring, hygiene essentials, low-cost meals, and transportation to and from these after school activities.
- Heriberto Milan Pacheco of San Jose, Latino College Preparatory Academy 2022 graduate, leverages his photography skills and role as founder and president of his school’s photography club to shine a light on the huge wealth disparity affecting education, transportation, and housing costs in his east San Jose neighborhood.
