Here are some tips for fans going to Super Bowl 50 and beyond, when the biggest football game of the year comes to Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 7, 2016.
Caltrain’ special event service will kick off Jan. 30 to accommodate the Opening Celebrations at Super Bowl City in San Francisco. Whether you plan to attend the NFL Experience in San Francisco, Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade in San Jose or theSuper Bowl itself in Santa Clara, Caltrain can get you there.
Because thousands of people are expected to visit the area and may be using Caltrain to get them around, we’d like to offer all passengers our Top 5 Tips during Super Bowl week:
1. Go to Caltrain’s website for updates: The Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has been adding pre-Super Bowl concerts and events for the last few weeks, and will likely add more activities as the event nears. Visit www.caltrain.com/SB50events for all the latest information and special train service updates.
2 .Pre-purchase Option for SB50 Attendees: Anyone can ride our system, but if you are planning to go to the Super Bowl, Caltrain and VTA will be offering a special joint ticket for SB50 attendees. Game day attendees will need to purchase the ticket in advance using VTA’s mobile ticketing app under the fares tab. Details can be found on VTA’s Levi’s Stadium page. Caltrain customers can also travel using their Clipper cards or by purchasing a regular ticket at Ticket Vending Machines. The joint Caltrain/VTA ticket will not be sold at Caltrain’s TVMs. Customers planning to transfer to light rail on Super Bowl Sunday must have pre-purchased their mobile ticket and must have a valid Super Bowl ticket to use VTA’s light rail system. VTA will be offering a bus bridge for non-Super Bowl attendees.
3.Learn the NFL Bag Policy: Customers attending the Super Bowl should be aware of the NFL’s bag policy. For safety and security, bags must be clear plastic and no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” on game day. No other bags will be allowed into the stadium and they will not offer a “bag check” area or lockers for attendees. For those planning to visit Super Bowl City, there is a list of prohibited items, such as bags larger than 18’’ X 18’’ in size, coolers and bikes that cannot be taken into the venue. 4. Take the SB 50 Special Train Service: If you are going to the big game on February 7, Caltrain encourages you to take one of the three special Super Bowl Baby Bullettrains to the Mountain View station before transferring to the VTA light rail. Regular weekend service trains are already quite busy. While any passenger regardless of destination can take one of the SB Baby Bullet trains, the special service has been added to accommodate the extra riders going to SB50.
5. Please Practice Patience: If you are a regular Caltrain commuter, please have patience with new and additional riders during Super Bowl week. Due to many pre-Super Bowl events, expect crowds during peak evening commute service and plan your trip accordingly. If possible, you may consider adjusting your work hours to avoid the crowding.
