CA Handbook Goes Mobile

2016 California Driver Handbook Available for Android and iOS Users

Sacramento / CALIFORNIA

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announces the release of the digital 2016 California Driver Handbook, making it easier for Android and iOS users to take advantage of studying on the go via their mobile devices. The DMV digital Driver Handbook is available for download in the Google Play Store for Android users and through the iBooks Store for any Mac or iOS device.

The digital version of the Driver Handbook brings the learning experience to a whole new level—offering customers interactive educational materials to help them prepare for the driver license exam. Important features include a comprehensive overview of the rules of the road and topics on how to acquire a new license or renew an existing license, a summary of standard road signs, and safe driving tips on sharing the road with other vehicles, mass transit, pedestrians, and cyclists. The digital 2016 California Driver Handbook builds on the success of the electronic edition, which has already received more than 60,000 downloads since 2013.

“We’ve added new sections in the digital 2016 California Driver Handbook that will help our customers prepare and understand California’s traffic laws,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “The sections include information on the use of new technologies while operating a motor vehicle, distracted driving, tire safety, driving with sun glare, and other dangers.”

The digital Driver Handbook for Mac or iOS devices also offers videos and multi-touch features that allow users to take electronic notes and share information through social media on Facebook or Twitter. Users can start reading the book on one device and pick up where they left off on another device. Collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks sync across all of these devices and users can customize their view by choosing between landscape and portrait mode, desired brightness and text size.

The digital California Driver Handbook is available for free download now through the Google Play Store and iBooks Store.

Print publication copies of the 2016 California Driver Handbook are available at DMV field offices statewide. PDF versions of the California Driver Handbooks are available on the DMV website in multiple languages, viewable on any desktop, smartphone, or tablet.
