ADULT AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM

SAN JOSE, CA, The Campbell Union High School District (CUHSD) began offering a full complement of adult and community education programs.  Campbell Adult and Community Education, known as CACE, is an independent program of the CUHSD serving the communities of Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, San Jose, Santa Clara and Saratoga. Formerly affiliated with MetroED, the District’s adult education programs initially will emphasize English as a Second Language (ESL), Citizenship, GED Preparation, High School Credit Recovery, Job Training and Community Adult Enrichment courses.  Leveraging its location in Silicon Valley as the global hub of innovation and entrepreneurship, CACE will provide students with access to the latest in education technology, including advanced digital teaching systems, state-of-the-art computer labs, and real-time interactive distance learning modules.
Joining the CUHSD as Director of Adult Education is Harry Robert (Bob) Harper, Ed.D, who brings more than 30 years of expertise in adult and career education, policy, strategic planning, finance, curricula and instruction, workforce development and community outreach to this new position. A recognized expert in building and administering adult education programs serving large and diverse populations, Harper previously held leadership positions with school districts in Los Angeles, Salinas, Pacific Grove, Watsonville-Aptos and San Mateo.
“Bob Harper is an exceptional academic who brings the practical experience, personal motivation and dedicated leadership to make CACE the foremost adult and community education program in Silicon Valley,” said Patrick Gaffney, CUHSD Assistant Superintendent. “He is a highly qualified, innovative and compassionate educator who is firmly focused on student success.”
Fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), CACE programs are taught by experienced faculty and custom-designed to provide adults of all ages and levels of experience with accessible and affordable education options.  To accommodate work and family schedules, classes are offered during the day, as well as on evenings, weekends and online. CACE’s open enrollment policy allows students to register at various times throughout the year, and CACE staff and faculty are available to work with students to develop learning plans geared to individual interests and goals.
“I am delighted to be joining the District at this exciting juncture,” said Harper.  “I believe adult education is a force for social justice, and that educating adults improves the educational experience of the entire family and greatly benefits the community at large. The CUHSD team has laid an excellent foundation in this area, and I see tremendous opportunity for continued growth and success.”
