The Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission and Office of Human Relations are releasing the following statement to join the Nation and the LGBTQ community in grieving the victims of Orlando’s mass shooting that left 49 dead and 53 injured, and condemning the unspeakable act of hate and intolerance. Harry Adams, Chair of the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission and Delorme McKee-Stovall, Manager of the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations expressed the following sentiment:
“Speaking on behalf of the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission, we join Supervisor Ken Yeager and the LGBTQ community and people around the globe in shared grief for the victims of this attack against all humanity.
Although deeply saddened, the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission remains fully committed to our mission to fight all forms of persecution based on hatred and intolerance. Our community must remain resilient and rise above this heinous act by resisting the urge to apply a broad-brush of blame.
In light of this recent tragedy, we urge all citizens to fight back with mutual respect and compassion for all cultures and sexual orientations. We will remain steadfast in our resolution to create sustainable solutions for social justice and enhance our efforts towards the eradication of prejudice and discrimination in our community.
We stand in solidarity with the victims, their loved-ones, and the world as we have all been deeply impacted by this unspeakable act of hate and intolerance.”
